Alex Band

Over the weekend I went to the Utah Flash game and after the game was a little concert. The singer was Alex Band. (His last name is Band, its not a band called that!) He used to be the lead singer for the band The Calling. I'm sure you've heard of some of their songs.."Wherever you will go" "Anything" "Adrienne." It was a fun night and the Flash won so it was even better!
So this is what Alex Band used to look like:

And this is what he looks like now:

Yea, we didn't recognize him either! He is a great singer though, very talented.

Jimmermania

The other night I went to the BYU vs. Colorado State basketball game. This season of BYU basketball has been defined by one word..Jimmer. There's been so much hype and hoopla and I finally understood all that on Wednesday night. The energy at the Marriott Center was pretty incredible. Jimmer Fredette..the guy is good. I think he finished with 36 points. One of the signs I saw says it all..."Jimmer's off night=your career high." It was fun being there despite the dumb high school boys from Colorado that were in our seats, but I'm not complaining. I think my favorite part of the whole night was seeing all the signs people held up! Seriously, people are clever:
"Welcome to Jimmerica"
"Is this real life?"
"Jimmer, will you go to Prom with me?"
"Jimmer Freddette University"
As we were driving down University Parkway after the game, my brother and his friend decided to be crazy high school boys and scream with the windows down. This was my favorite saying all night..."Jimmer's in my trunk!" It was a great way to end the night! As my brother said, "This ain't church ball." Keep up the good work Jimmer, I mean BYU!!

Valentine's Day & other things

Valentines Day this year was fun! I went to dinner with a good friend of mine. It was great to chat with her and catch up on lots of things. We went to a restaurant at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon called the Porcupine Grill. It was great food. My favorite part of the meal was the desert which was a chocolate porcupine. As I was explaining to my dad and brother that is was a porcupine made of chocolate shell, my brother said, "Well, duh." I thought I was doing great at explaining it, but apparently someone is too smart for his britches! Here is a picture of our cute desert:

After dinner as we were walking out, I see my friend taking a picture of some guys. When I turned around, it was about 8 or 9 guys sitting at the bar by themselves on Valentines Day. Pretty ironic! Here is that picture:

On Tuesday it was Young Womens combined with the young men and we went ice skating! I was pretty nervous to go because I'd never been before and I didn't want to look like a fool in front of all the young women. I ended up having a great time and didn't fall once! It was Ally & Emmy's first activity in Young Womens and they loved it! I was pretty proud of myself for trying something new and being somewhat good at it!

At work on Thursday I got a call from one of our patients. It was a patient that was scheduled that afternoon and the mom called about 15 min before her daughter's appointment. She said "This is so & so and we've just been in a car accident so we won't be able to make it to our appointment." In the background I can hear the sirens and so I know the accident just happened and that they were on their way to our office. I'm talking to the mom asking her if she wanted to reschedule right then or call me back and she said lets do it now so telling her when the next was to get her back, she doesn't answer and all of a sudden I hear the cop asking if everyone is ok! I just sat on the phone because I didn't want to be rude by hanging up, so when she got back on, I told her just to call me later! I felt so bad that they got in a car accident on the way to dental appointment. I've never been on the phone with someone who had just gotten in a car accident with the cop right there! It was a little interesting :)

Best Score Ever!

I went bowling over the weekend with my brother and sisters and I bowled my best game ever! I rarely bowl over 100 (sad, huh) so when I bowled a 144, I was stoked!! Yes, I bowled a 144!! I was pretty proud of myself :) Here is a picture to prove it... (the picture isn't the best, but if you look close, you can see the score!)

Today at church, the Young Women were combined with the Relief Society for Fast Sunday. As I was walking in, the Stake Relief Society President introduced me another sister. Her name was Sister Doxey. Who is that you ask? Well, it just so happens, she is on the General Relief Society Board. I was a bit mesmerized when I found how who she was. I've never met someone that has a high calling in the church so I was kind of excited to meet her! She was very nice and thoughtful. She bore her testimony at the end of the lesson and I knew she was a woman called of God. It was a great spiritual experience for me. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet her and chat with her a bit.

Wonderful Time of Year

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! My family and I sure did. I do love this time of year. Its great to see all the family, even though we do live close to the ones here in Utah and see them often, but its still fun getting together for the holidays. Its also nice to reflect more on the birth of our Savior. I know I get caught up in the hype of this time of year, but I try to remember the true meaning of Christmas and not focus so much on the "worldy" things.
As some of you know, I am the Beehive Advisor in our ward. I'm loving every minute of it and I hope the girls are too! As a combined Sunday lesson the week before Christmas, us leaders told of our favorite Christmas story. It really helped me realize the true meaning of Christmas especially as I bore my testimony to the Young Women about that. That Sunday definitely helped me get more in the spirit of Christmas which I am very grateful for.

P.S. Sorry no pictures with this post! I'll update with them soon enough!

Honduras

I was able to go on another humanitarian trip. This time I went to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It was such a great trip! I really enjoy serving others and going to see other parts of the world. It really is a great experience and both times I've gone, I've loved it. I met some awesome people and got a little better at my Spanish :) I was gone for Thanksgiving this year, but we had a nice banquet on Thursday and I was able to eat some turkey! As well as assiting dentists, this time they had me doing x-rays too for two days because those were the busiest days and the needed me mad x-ray skills! It was actually pretty fun. I'm sure the pre-missionaries hated me shoveing sensors in their mouths, but all of the them gave me smiles after we got their x-rays so that's good! I was able to go on two humanitarian trips as well. I went to 2 LDS members' homes and a children's cancer hospital. Both were great and made me tear up a bit. At the first members' home, I felt the spirit so strong and I think most of us were teary eyed. I definitely got to meet some special people. It's amazing how these people are so positive despite how broken their personal lives may be. Both families we met had family members with diseases and don't really have the money to get the help they need, but they were all so happy to see us and accept the gifts we had for them. To me, it seems like Honduras isn't quite as poor as Nicaragua. Both homes we went to had tile/carpet and other nice features, but the homes I saw in Nicaragua had dirt floors, no glass windows and no A/C. I really had a great time and hopefully I can go on another humanitarian trip soon! Enjoy the pictures!

Labor Day

I know this post is a little late, but I needed to update, so here ya go. We went to Antelope Island for Labor Day. It was lots of fun. I had never been there before and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of Yellowstone with all the wildlife and by the looks of it. Here are a few pics of the day.
